Study

There are three streams for students from China through which they can apply for the study permit: regular study permit, Student Parners Program or Study Direct Stream. Students should understand his/her own situations before applying.

  • Regular study permit requires more financial proof, such as at least 12-months bank history, which SPP and SDS do not ask for. SPP and SDS will ask for a one-year GIC deposit at a Canadian bank and proof of tuition fee payment  instead.
  • SPPand SDS usually attract different groups of students. Under SPP, students must be accepted by one of the partner schools and have IELTS of at least 5.5; SDS does not have a requirement in school selection but asks for IELTS of at least 6.0.
  • It is recommended to apply at least three months prior to the school start date under regular and SDS program; it is recommended to apply at least 45 days prior to the school start date.
  • Upfront medical exam is mandantory for SDS and SPP.  When submitting your application, you may either submit in person or by mail to the visa processing centers.

To qualify, you must:

  • Have been accepted by a DLI;
  • have satisfactory proof of financial support;
  • are law-abiding and have no record of criminal activity;
  • meet the requirements of theImmigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, including leaving Canada at the end of your studies;
  • will not be a risk to the security of Canada;
  • are in good health (a medical examination may be requested);
  • Students who want to study in Quebec must obtain the CAQ first.

To qualify for SPP, you must:

  • Submit a Letter of Acceptance from an SPP partner school
  • Submit evidence of English language abilities: · IELTS 5.5 or higher
  • Submit a Guaranteed Investment Certificate(GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution
  • Undergo a medical examination before submitting your application

To qualify for SDS, you must:

  • Submit a Letter of Acceptance from an eligible Canadian college or university,
  • Submit evidence of English language abilities: IELTS 6 or higher
  • Submit a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution,
  • Undergo a medical examination before submitting your application
